If you’ve been following me on social media for a while you probably know all about how I quit my 9 to 5 and decided to pursue my dream without a bit of shame in my belly.
Well, buckle up kid, it’s storytime.
In 2018 I had this wild dream of owning a business. At first, I thought that I wanted to own a children’s clothing store. I mean, if you’ve seen my son you know I am all about kids, target and buying as many children clothing items as possible. I launched a little project which I remember calling “Little Dope One”, and I was ready to go. About a week in, nothing felt right and I knew it wasn’t for me. Trashed it, quickly.
If you are wondering, yes I’m one of those people who feel deeply passionate about something, but only the right thing can and will hold my attention.
Well, after that and a stream of other ideas I finally landed on photography. I had an interest in high school, college, and sort of just felt like it was a hobby that couldn’t have been explored.
My train of thought behind making this a little business was that I wanted to eventually be my own boss, work with people who filled my cup with love and I could, in turn, pour into and most importantly I could spend quality, real, time with my family.
And, poof, just like that, Soulful Photography Co. was born. I went out and bought a nice little Nikon D3300 (hey, it was nice at the time), and decided I was just going to jump in the shallow end and give away sessions for free to learn my camera and get some practice working with real people.
I could hop on here and tell you a bunch of crazy stuff about how I created this business because I wanted to capture couples in love but that would be, well, crazy. Honestly, that’s not where I started at all. I wanted to be free and capture any and everything that people would let me capture.
I grew into this place where I wanted to be a part of something special for people and ultimately, I wanted to assist in telling a story that meant the most to people.
I have a kid, and they are wildly crazy to photograph, it takes something special to do that, so I knew newborn, birth and kids photography were OUT. Not to mention, hospitals creep me out AND I sort of passed out when my son was born.
That’s a story for later.
I may be one of the few guys in the world who is obsessed with love stories, how people met, rom coms and weddings (from the dress to the details), so I knew where I needed to go. If you guessed couples and weddings then, ding ding ding, you are are right on the money.
Having the freedom and flexibility to see my kid and spend quality time with him and my wife while also being able to do what I love is my driving force in my business.
Some people have a why for their business, which is as simple as they want to make money. Well, its a business, who doesn’t want to be financially free too, but it has to be more than that. And for me it truly is.
I know that over the next few years my business, practices, and everything that follows along will be growing all because I have placed the things that matter the most to me at the forefront.
